One teenage youth was discovered deceased only a few days following being falsely accused of stealing the ashes of a deceased infant during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Heartbreaking Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents found his remains in his room at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Start

The investigation heard how his mother got a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if her son was her offspring. The communication stated: "Inform him appreciation for breaking into my flat."

In a statement read to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, claiming her baby's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An investigation report from authorities later concluded the alleged burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the property was not stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed taken ashes attracted social media responses, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She explained that her son had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions genuinely mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was detained at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing heard, but had failed to contacted the family by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had gone into the house because the resident who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed online after the accusations.

The inquest learned that a young adult encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he died, describing how she had heard him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is completely devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The hearing heard from educational personnel at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On 8 November, she "heard some students discussing that the student had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she called the family's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The court learned his parents said they did not receive that communication.

Official Conclusion

Lead coroner told the hearing he would await documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the platform of social media.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and after his interview he was freed while inquiries continued."

The coroner determined: "There is no proof that the acts or failures of any organization led to or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is impossible to discern his intent."
