NFL Recap: Denver Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Battle
During a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Denver Broncos clinched a close victory over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and specialist Wil Lutz provided the game-winning go-ahead field goal to secure the ugly win.
Defensive Performance Wins Contest
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 following conceding a safety in the third quarter. Remarkably, the Jets could only produce a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's short kick with approximately five minutes left.
Historic Struggles for Jets Attack
Despite their horrendous performance, the Jets still had possession with a chance to score a potential victory. However Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than calling on specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback struggled throughout, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. The Jets finished with minus-10 passing yards, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," the coach commented following the contest.
