Air travel have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a major technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

Every arrival and departure were suspended due to an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

Nonetheless, considerable delays are anticipated to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

A spokesperson had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the current status on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the operational halt to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers should still plan to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the hub as residual delays are worked through.
