Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found a variety of interesting creations from small studios. Yet, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game includes a character that is truly a piece of poop trying to navigate to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: press a single jump button. Throughout 150 levels, encounter tough enemies and access a shop to acquire skins for your dung hero.

Time your jumps with caution, since one wrong move forces starting over. Jump using air pockets to propel your character upward, cross crumbling platforms, and interact with buttons to open new areas. Earn UN-KOINS and use them on more difficult game content as gameplay gets crazy.

Graphically, the game shows off neon level designs and an amazing soundtrack. Its minimalist graphics of shifting abstract forms may remind players of old favorites like Earthbound.

Although difficult to recall similar titles where you control a dung character, gaming often incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from protagonist excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. And of course, this theme is present heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already garnered notable accolades, like winning at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is available currently on Steam, with the full game planned to arrive on computers this November.
